Bike MS 2012 – Day 2

Day 2 of the 2012 did not start well when at 6:00 am many of us were surprised to find out that there was no shuttle bus available for us. Carpools quickly sprang up and we enjoyed breakfast and Day 1 stories with our fellow riders. Most of us had to start our day in a light drizzle, and some of us had to get some mechanical help before starting, but soon we were all on the road again.

Not a good start to the day

After a short ride to the first water stop, we were all anticipating the climb up Torrey Pines hill.

Torrey Pines hill is the most challenging and rewarding portion of Day 2

Once we conquered the hill, it was (almost) all downhill from there. In La Jolla we were treated to a new route through town that avoided the treacherous cobblestone road that has been a problem in past years.

Another pleasant surprise was the new bike trail that allowed us to avoid the busiest traffic area getting to Sea World Drive making the ride much safer for all.

When we finally completed our two day ride, Ryan and his VoluntEARs had the party goodies all set up for us.

Bike MS 2012 – Day 1

As we prepared to start day one of the 2012 Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour, Team Disney captain Ryan Giannetta announced to the crowd that Team Disney crossed over the $100,000 mark for 2012 and over $1,000,000 in the 13 years that Team Disney has participated in the Bike MS Bay to Bay Tour.

Although the day started with a steady drizzle of rain, our riders quickly made our way to Salt Creek State Beach, where Disney VoluntEARs greeted all the riders with cheers of encouragement, water and snacks.

As we progressed to our lunch stop in San Clemente, many of the Team Disney riders were again riding in a constant drizzle that created rooster-tails off their tires making the bikes a muddy mess.

After lunch the sun came out for the ride through Camp Pendleton (thank you USMC for letting us ride through the base).

After getting through the new route through the base (with that big hill), it was all downhill (almost) to the finish.

Exhausted, we gladly found our way to the Team Disney Massage room where students from Fullerton College treated Team Disney to much needed massages
